Production Diary 2 - Initial Idea
As a group we came to the decision of the Indie genre for our music video as we believe that we can be creative with this genre in terms of conventions. Aspects of Indie such as easily accessible locations and plain costume mean that we can closely abide by the codes and conventions as they are within our reach.
Our
idea for the narrative follows the lyrics of the song we have chosen which is
She moves in her own way – by The Kooks.
Our narrative includes three main characters.
Our first character; Sarah is plays the character of a very stereotypical girly girl
who takes pride in her appearance, dresses well and always looks presentable. Sarah
will wear tight dresses and heavy makeup.
Our
second character; Sapphire contrast from Sarah. Sapphire is ‘care-free’. She doesn’t
care about what she looks like nor what others think of her. She will wear
costume such as hoodies and trainers and minimal makeup to demonstrate this.
Our
last character is male, he plays the lead role in the band as well as the lead
role in the narrative. He is the star profile. The star profile is the main
character within a media text, this title was identified by Richard Dyer. Our character’s
name is Alex. He appears as the stereotypical indie boy.
The
narrative begins with Sarah and Alex’s relationship. We then see disruption of the
equilibrium where the two split. Sapphire is then noticed by Alex and they become
close. But as the video comes to an end Sarah and Alex make up, and the equilibrium
is returned.
Our
narrative links to Todorov’s narrative theory and the 5 stages, however
challenges the stereotypical happy ending and ‘good girl gets the guy’.
